It is one of the marvelous products of nature without which there would be no life. Soil is one of the three major natural resources, alongside air and water. By definition, soil is the top layer of the land surface of the earth that is composed of disintegrated rock particles, humus, water, and air, whereas sand is a loose material that consists of rocks or mineral grains. Though, sand is a type of soil, they are quite different from each other. Often, people are confused with the terms ‘sand and soil’, and consider them to be the same. Key difference: The main difference between the two is that, the soil has pores which allow the water and nutrients to be held, whereas the sand is loose, grainy and does not have pores to hold water or nutrients.
